Hate high taxes in Toronto? Us, too.
Toronto taxpayers haven't had good news in many years. Although mayoral candidate George Smitherman recently announced his desire to reduce or eliminate the vehicle registration tax, he is not the mayor and has no chance of becoming one until the fall. In the meantime, Torontonians will have to deal with another city budget from tax-and-spend Mayor Miller. That will be introduced February 16. Rest assured, the CTF will continue to advocate for lower taxes and restrained spending instead of the 4 per cent tax hike and 10 percent spending hikes that occured last year.
Last year, CTF Ontario director Kevin Gaudet confronted a city councillor on the massive $8.7 billion budget and the continual tax increases that enabled this spending on bike paths, trees, and all sorts of initiatives that weren't necessary. The video from CTV, Global, and CityTV is below. And if you appreciate the CTF, please join us by adding your email to our mailing list or even give a donation.
Canada's Federal Debt

The federal government is adding $153 million a day to our debt. At this rate, the $105-billion in debt repayment between 1997 – 2008 will be wiped out next year. Support our campaign for a federal balanced budget law and help us STOP this clock.

People should see
People should see Smitherman's bid for the Mayors seat, for what it really is. When we see two of McGuinty's top henchmen vying for seats in Ottawa and Toronto, you can't help but to understand the election of these two parachute candidates likely represents McGuinty's desire to increase his power base and influence even higher taxes. With the new taxing power of municipalities. Allowing him to deflect future complaints of oppressive taxation, by stating he has no power over what the cities do. Claiming he would not raise taxes was a lie and the election of his two top dogs will allow him the comfort of denying responsibility.
Tax payers should be aware of all the politics involved, before we fall victim to these scemes, down the road which we will not be able to control.
