Fix blended sales tax

Fix the Blended Sales Tax

Effective July 1st, 2010, the Ontario provincial government will blend the 8% Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and the 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST). The new 13% Blended Sales Tax will apply to many items formerly exempt from provincial sales taxes. This means a tax increase for consumers and their families. Adding insult to injury, the Ontario government will pay $25 million in severance to tax collectors transferred to the federal government because of the BST.

At BST hearings, the CTF blasted the government for its "arrogance and disregard." Regardless, the Ontario government has already passed legislation to blend its sales taxes. Now it is time for the government to make it revenue neutral for families and lower the BST. Use the buttons below to help Premier McGuinty get the message.
