Canadian Taxpayers Federation slams proposed $10 million payout to Omar Khadr

Canadian Taxpayers Federation slams proposed $10 million payout to Omar Khadr

OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) Federal Director Aaron Wudrick released the following statement in response to reports that the Trudeau government was preparing to offer Omar Khadr a $10 million compensation package:

“Mr. Khadr admitted to killing an American soldier while fighting with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. The notion that Canadian taxpayers should be on the hook for paying such a person $10 million is highly offensive. (Photo: Justin Trudeau credit: A.K. Fung/Wikipedia)

If the Trudeau government wishes to apologize for errors made in the past, that’s one thing, but handing $10 million in taxpayer money to Khadr is unacceptable.

If the federal government has an extra $10 million kicking around they should give it to the families of Canadian military veterans who were killed in Afghanistan by people who were fighting alongside Khadr.”

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has launched a petition opposing the financial payment to Khadr. It’s available HERE.

JT is not your money. Is your government so populated with utopian ideals as to pay a terrorist off. Never mind the pile of money vested into getting him out of prison. Now we must also pay. I know the limbs have no sense, this is beyond tolerable. Next election you will flash your smile to being a third party. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.

Nothing would surprise me with the very sad state of affairs currently in this Country. I'm half expecting Prime Minister Trudeau to appoint him a seat in the Senate. Canada is in serious trouble on many fronts.

This settlement is just another ridiculous example of how the Liberal Government, under the supposed leadership of a light weight, twerpish Justin Trudeau, continues to waste taxpayer dollars as they pander to special interest groups and individuals. Broken promises, poor fiscal management, even worse decision making and a ballooning federal deficit will haunt the Liberals as they go down to defeat in the next federal election.

The liberals will not care for the rehabilitation and care of our veterans but they can slap our veterans and Canadians in the face by this mind bending plan to give $10.5 million to an enemy fighting our troops. Disgusting beyond belief!! Unbelievable and incomprehensible proposal that will outrage millions of Canadians. Especially those families who have a military history and have endured the loss of a family member or the wounds and trauma suffered by a father, brother, son or daughter. When aid to/for the enemy supersedes that given to our own veterans there is a serious problem within our government and with our employees The billions of OUR dollars given away by these liberals borders on economic treason by our EMPLOYEES! Trudeau must rethink this preposterous proposal or 2019 will see the liberals thrown out of office for just cause by the electorate.

They say Khadr was 15 when he killed the American soldier. He was born Sept 14 1986, he killed the soldier on July 27 2002 less then 2 months before his 16 th birthday. It just shows you that our liberal laws of the ( supposedly free world) protect the terrorists and evil ones and the Canadian taxpayers Pay And Pay. Common sense that judges and our government forget who pays, and sends the wrong message to others

If the government is stupid enough to pay this guy, then charge it back to the US.....they were the ones who had him at Gitmo! Why are we apologizing? Trudeau needs to learn that he can't please everyone, however he has to start listening to the taxpayers.

Mr. Khadr was 15 and saw an invading army. What would you do in such a situation? Would you try to defend the people you know? Do you remember what it's like to be a 15 year old child? This opinion release seems to have racism at its core and a gross misunderstanding of what Mr. Khadr went through for ten years of his young life.

Isn't it ILLEGAL to fund TERRORISTS? Why is Canada making a terrorist a multi-millionaire when I'm stuck fighting for any benefit that I'm entitled to as a law abiding, tax-paying, Canadian citizen? Maybe help your indigenous, Children, Homeless Canadians. Mr. Khadr was accused of throwing a grenade that killed Sgt. Speer, a U.S. army medic, and blinded Mr. Morris in one of his eyes during a firefight between al-Qaeda militants and U.S. troops in 2002 and Canada is rewarding him!!!

First of all Khadr was not a child soldier. The Geneva Convention says that soldiers must be part of a chain of command, wear uniforms, carry there weapons openly and generally follow the laws of war. Let Trudeau pay for him out of his own pocket. Embarrassed to be a Canadian today.

Disgraceful. A slap in the face to our fine military men and women. I pay taxes to fight terrorism and now I'm paying the terrorists. Trudeau should resign for embarrassing our once great country. Shame on you Trudeau!

An outrageous waste of money, making a terrorist a multi millionaire. It's really not my problem that he had a bad father and was raised by a terrorist family. Lots of people have awful upbringings and don't kill people. Bleeding heart liberals are making a martyr out of a terrorist and setting him up for life on the backs of our tax dollars. If money is being handed out, give it to our veterans that fought against these terrorists.

Folks, there's no point in getting upset with our prime minister- the Canadian taxpayers elected him. Experienced in any level of government or business? Nope. Any military service or build anything of note? Nope. Look good in a pair of jeans, have dreamy eyes, a full thick head of lustrous hair and know how to take a selfie? Yep. Sold! You're qualified to be prime minister! Face it, if his last name was Jones he'd be sweeping floors or wandering the wilderness barefoot finding himself. Stuck with him for a few more years folks, remember foolish wastes of money like this when the next election is called.

a reply to John Bowers - I don't think people misunderstand what Mr. Khadr went through. Nor do people believe that his overall treatment was entirely correct. However as a society we are trying to understand how to deal with a new type of warfare - and as such mistakes will be made. Should Canada apologize for the treatment he endured, perhaps. But let us not separate the treatment he received from his actions, child or not - he admittedly participated in war and deliberately engaged in warfare. Some argue he had no choice, debatable perhaps. So fast forward today - he has served his time and he is free to live his life in this great country. That should be repayment enough. Unfortunately too few seem to understand that the freedoms we enjoy come a great cost. Mr. Khadr's actions have a cost and he has paid that cost. His current freedom and opportunity has a cost and others have paid that on his behalf. The Canadian government/people have allowed him to live his life from now on in peace - he should consider any and all presumed debt to him paid in full.

Dear Mr. Prime Minister, I am emailing to let you know how angry I am by your government’s payout to Mr. Omar Khadr. I will not take my time or yours to argue the point, suffice to say that if Canadian law is truly the problem then you should fix it. You must reverse this payout. I have no political affiliations other than as a proud Canadian citizen. This is a total disgrace and flies the face of all common sense. I sincerely trust that your government stands no chance of being re-elected unless this decision is reversed. This is beyond the pale, an absolute outrage and further your apology to this man does not speak for me.

So $10.5M was a good decision to save some money, but we sacrifice what is ethical, morally right. What is morally right is to not reward a killer/terrorist that massive sum of money. It should have been fought in court regardless of the cost. At least this killer would not be awarded. By settling for less out of court we are saying it's alright to award people committing treason and terrorists if you save some money. Send that message to all those out there. Good job Trudeau. You've sent a bad, bad message. I wish the elections were in a few days!
