To the Premier of New Brunswick

A sugary drink tax, as proposed by New Brunswick Green Party, is a bad idea for New Brunswick taxpayers. It would disproportionately hurt the poorest New Brunswickers and would fail to improve health outcomes.

Sugar and fat taxes have been tried in several other places, and they’ve failed. A sugary drink tax would require additional bureaucracy to create and impose, and with an unsustainable debt load, that’s a cost New Brunswick simply cannot afford.

New Brunswickers already face some of the highest taxes in Canada. The absolute last thing New Brunswickers need is another tax.

The only things a sugary drink tax will make thinner are taxpayers’ wallets.

We the undersigned call on the Government of New Brunswick to reject calls for a sugary drink tax.

You have the power to change who influences politics in our country: big unions, big corporations and government-funded special interest groups can be challenged by the contributions of thousands of individual taxpayers who care to make a difference.
