Ontarians pay some of the highest hydro rates in all of Canada, thanks to the former government’s botched Green Energy Act that locked the province into renewable energy contracts set well above market rates.
Although Premier Doug Ford scrapped the act upon entering office in 2018, Ontarians are still stuck paying for these terrible deals.
The Global Adjustment surcharge which pays for the green energy deals is causing hydro bills to skyrocket. They rose by 13 per cent Ford’s first year in office.
While the premier has taken some small steps to provide Ontarians some relief on their hydro bills, it’s not enough.
The premier must overhaul Ontario’s energy system to eliminate the Global Adjustment surcharge and provide Ontarians relief on their hydro bills.
