BC Guest Post: TransLink should cut spending, not raise taxes

Author: Jordan Bateman 2013/02/08

Feedback is pouring into the CTF's B.C. office on TransLink's ridiculous tax grab, and we're going to keep posting a sample of that outrage here on the blog. Today's post is by Brian Davis of Cloverdale (with an image provided by Al from Delta - he's sporting this sign on his car these days. Apologies to anyone offended by salty langauge but this sums up the feelings of many Lower Mainlanders today).

Thank you for speaking out about government waste and particularly Translink.

I am tired of being asked for more and more money when I have very little opportunity to use Transit. I live in Cloverdale, and as you know transit is not great out here.

Politicians should be talking about cuts to budgets instead of increases. If we don't get things under control financially, we will become another Greece eventually.

One particular thing about Translink really bothers me, it is that they have a one track mind to consider only elevated light rail technology. When at grade rapid transit is proposed as Dianne Watts has put forward, they just don't want to even consider it, even though it is much less expensive.

I have often wondered if the BC government signed some kind of agreement with Bombardier in years past, that they would use only that technology and nothing else. Nothing else seems to make much sense as to why they won't consider it.

Just a thought.
