Independent MLA Bob Simpson (Cariboo North) continued his leadership in transparency and accountability by releasing his constituency and legislative office expenses. Earlier this year, he started posting his travel expenses.
Simpson and Finance Minister Michael de Jong stand in stark contrast to B.C.’s other 83 MLAs who were publicly spanked by the Auditor General, CTF, media and taxpayers for dragging their heels on expense account transparency for years. As Simpson said in his news release: “Out of respect for taxpayers, I believe it’s important for all MLAs to be open about our expenses sooner rather than later. British Columbians’ tax dollars support our work as MLAs, and we need to be upfront about all of the expenses associated with that work.”
