Yesterday, BC Premier Christy Clark announced her full jobs plan at a swanky lunch with the Vancouver Board of Trade. Modest by most job stimulus standards ($300 million, mainly shifted from other priorities in government), Clark focused on cutting bureaucracy, and made a passionate case for balancing the provincial budget.
However, she also announced several boards and panels designed to cut through bureaucracy. Not sure how more bureaucracy will cut other bureaucracy, so that’s a mystifying turn.
She also signalled a shift from former Premier Gordon Campbell’s love affair with tourism and “green” jobs by focusing on resource ministries. It was a fascinating speech, but still distressingly strayed into weird boutique tax credit programs. Scrap those, Premier, and I think you’d find a lot more support for this plan.
The better Jobs Plan: cut spending, cut bureaucracy, get rid of corporate welfare, and then cut taxes, leaving more money in taxpayers' pockets to spend on goods and services.

I tweeted the speech live. For the uninitiated, Twitter restricts messages to 140 characters. @christyclarkbc is the Premier. #vbotjobs is a search term meaning Vancouver Board of Trade jobs. And #bcpoli is a search term for BC politics. Here are my tweets from yesterday, if you're interested in a litle play by play recap:
