How much money are the TransLink mayors trying to mine out of your pockets with their latest schemes? Nearly a billion dollars, according to their own internal study.
Last year, a copy of an internal report prepared for the mayors on various TransLink tax options leaked out to the public (You may remember Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender’s reaction, on-camera, to whoever leaked it: “I would like to whack him on the side of the head,” His Worship said on the Global News Hour).
Wasn’t me who leaked, by the way. No whacking me, sir!
Anyway, the report gives us a glimpse into how much revenue the mayors are trying to get:
Add the $250 million in a 0.5% sales tax being thrown around by the mayors in the media, and you have a grand total of $680 to $950 million. Bear in mind TransLink’s current annual spend: $1.3 billion. Talk about a sledgehammer of taxes for Lower Mainlanders - or perhaps how we should be described - OWER Mainlanders!
