  • Responses to be posted to CTF web site today

OTTAWA: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today released results of its five-question survey to all leadership candidates.

"We are appreciative of the time that all candidates took to fill out our survey. There answers will be helpful for our members who may wish to participate in the leadership selection process," stated CTF federal director Walter Robinson.

"While the CTF does not endorse political parties or candidates, it is fair to mention that only one candidate, Chris Stockwell, actually respected and met last Friday's 4pm response deadline. The other four had responses that trickled in to our office over the weekend," added Robinson.

The five questions posed to all candidates were:

1) Why are you running to be Leader of the PC Party of Ontario What vision or agenda do wish to implement as Premier of the province

2) Health care is the number one issue for Ontarians and Canadians. The CTF has proposed modernizing the Canada Health Act with five new principles of universality, public governance, quality, accountability, choice, and sustainability along with structural reforms in delivery and financing (including pre-funding) of health care. What reforms do you propose for our health care system

3) What is your fiscal plan for Ontario In the midst of an economic downturn, what specific measures do you propose to keep Ontario's tax rates competitive, reduce our provincial debt, keep essential government services funded, focused and priorized

4) Education reform has been a constant on the PC government's agenda. However, this focus has resulted in unhealthy tension between a variety of stakeholders in the education realm. Is this tension a concern for you and how do you propose to diffuse this situation

5) What specific accomplishments are you most proud of given your service in government over the past seven years What role did you play in securing these accomplishments
