REGINA: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) welcomes Premier Wall's intention to introduce essential services legislation to ensure important public services are still provided in the event public sector unions go on strike.
"Essential services legislation is important and necessary for our province," said Lee Harding, Saskatchewan Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. "When it comes to public health and safety paid for by public dollars, taxpayers shouldn't expect anything less. Nor should back-to-work legislation ever be ruled out for labour disputes that affect public services.
In health care this is most important. While workers walk off the job for what they call a 'fair' deal, lineups increase for a floundering health care system-something inherently 'unfair' for overtaxed citizens.
"From a willingness to implement essential service levels to a firm 'no' to more public dollars wasted on pulp mills, it's refreshing to see a premier who is willing to stand on behalf of Saskatchewan taxpayers. The CTF hopes Premier Wall follows through on these commitments."
