CTF Federal Director Derek Fildebrandt discusses subsidies to federal political parties. Provided a political party receives 2% of the vote, it will collect $2 for every vote it receives in a federal election. This amounted to a $68 million taxpayer subsidy after the last election. Derek says the subsidy makes parties lazy when it comes to raising their own money. He adds cutting this subsidy could reduce the number of elections.
