The Western Climate Initiative (WCI) was, until recently, a group of seven US states and four Canadian provinces that joined together to develop a regional cap-and-trade system.
The B.C. government is hot on this initiative. In fact, the B.C. Throne Speech on February 9, 2010 said the Western Climate Initiative is "yielding results for British Columbians."
Now, however, Arizona has dropped out of the WCI and Utah may not be far behind.
Even California may throw cold water on the cap-and-trade extravaganza until unemployment falls to 5.5%.
US President Barak Obama is cooling to cap and trade. He may remove cap and trade provisions from his proposed climate legislation.
Would it be too extreme to say cap and trade is dead in the US?
So, Premier Campbell, just how does spending tax dollars to send bureaucrats to participate in an initiative that does little more than spew hot air yield results?
