LETHBRIDGE, AB: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding the Alberta government for keeping it’s promise to cut income taxes for hardworking Albertans.
“It’s great to see hardworking Albertans getting a hefty tax cut starting this week,” said Kris Sims, CTF Alberta Director. “Many Albertans are fighting to afford the basics right now and keeping more of their own money will help.”
The UCP government promised to cut the lowest income tax rate from 10 per cent down to eight per cent for the first $60 thousand of earnings during the last election.
The income tax cut takes effect this week, with the Alberta government estimating it will save the average two-person working family about $1,500 per year.
The Alberta government planning to collect more than $15 billion in personal income tax from workers in Alberta this year.
“Most Albertans should notice that there’s a smaller bite being taken out of their paycheques soon and that’s a great thing,” said Sims. “This tax cut should pay for a month’s worth of groceries for a family of four.”
