The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on Premier David Eby to scrap his hidden bracket creep tax hike that will cost British Columbians up to $2,917 by 2030, according to the CTF calculations.

“British Columbians can’t afford Eby’s sneaky bracket creep tax hike that’s taking hundreds of dollars from families,” said Carson Binda, CTF B.C. Director. “Failing to adjust tax brackets to inflation is a hidden tax hike on British Columbians that will increase their tax bills every single year.”

The NDP government stopped indexing income tax brackets and non-refundable tax credits to inflation in Budget 2026. That’s a stealth tax hike called bracket creep. 

Bracket creep means that inflation can automatically bump taxpayers into a higher tax bracket and increase their tax bill.  And it happens without a single vote to raise taxes.

Bracket creep will cost individual British Columbians up to $2,871 by 2030.

Budget 2026 also raised provincial taxes by a total of 16 per cent on a two-income family of four making $100,000, from $2,790 in 2025 to $3,240 in 2026. 

“British Columbians shouldn’t be paying more taxes to pay for a wasteful provincial government,” Binda said. “Eby needs to reverse his sneaky bracket creep tax hike and cut taxes to make life more affordable for B.C. taxpayers.”
