Majority of Saskatchewanians support axing industrial carbon tax

Author: Gage Haubrich 2026/06/17

SASKATOON, SK: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation released new Insightrix polling showing 72 per cent of Saskatchewanians support the Saskatchewan government scrapping the provincial industrial carbon tax.

“The poll is clear: A strong majority of Saskatchewanians support Premier Scott Moe’s decision to scrap the industrial carbon tax,” said Gage Haubrich, CTF Prairie Director. “Saskatchewan is the only carbon tax-free province in Canada and Saskatchewanians want it to stay that way.”

The Saskatchewan government set its provincial industrial carbon tax to zero on April 1, 2025. This removed the carbon tax from SaskPower bills, saving Saskatchewan families hundreds of dollars per year. It also made Saskatchewan the only carbon tax-free province in Canada.

The Insightrix poll asked Saskatchewanians what they think about the Saskatchewan government cancelling the provincial industrial carbon tax. Results of the poll show:

  • 52 per cent strongly support
  • 20 per cent somewhat support
  • 12 per cent somewhat oppose
  • 8 per cent strongly oppose
  • 8 per cent are unsure

Prime Minister Mark Carney continues to pressure provinces to impose an industrial carbon tax. The federal government recently signed an agreement with the Alberta government to hike that province’s carbon tax six and a half times higher by 2040.

Moe recently said that the Saskatchewan government will start talks with the federal government to find a “workable place” on charging Saskatchewanians an industrial carbon tax again.

“All carbon taxes do is make life more expensive and Saskatchewan businesses less competitive,” Haubrich said. “Moe needs to keep listening to Saskatchewanians and keep Saskatchewan carbon-tax free.

“Moe is a leader in fighting carbon taxes – he can’t cave to Carney now.”
