The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is demanding that Ontario Premier Doug Ford reverse his decision to buy a private jet with taxpayers’ money.
“It is completely unacceptable Ford is billing taxpayers for a private jet so he can fly around the province in luxury,” said Noah Jarvis, CTF Ontario Director. “Especially when this government is borrowing billions of dollars this year and wasting more than a billion dollars a month on debt interest charges.”
The Ford government billed taxpayers for a $28.9-million 2016 Bombardier Challenger 650 executive jet, according to a report from the Toronto Star.
The government confirms the jet is for the premier’s personal use.
This year the Ford government is adding $25.8 billion to the province’s debt, driving total government debt to $485 billion.
Ford previously bragged about never using the premier’s personal plane in 2019, saying he prefers to drive and talk to the people.
“Instead of taking commercial flights like many premiers in this country do, Ford would rather cosplay the life of the rich and famous on taxpayers’ dime,” said Jarvis. “Ordinary taxpayers are struggling to make ends meet and Ford is making them pay for a personal jet so that he doesn’t have to wait in line at the airport like everyone else.
“Ford needs to cancel this private jet purchase now and stick to flying commercial.”
