Taxpayers release priorities for B.C. budget

Author: Carson Binda 2023/02/24
  • Axe the B.C. carbon taxes

  • Pay down the debt

  • End TransLink waste

Vancouver, B.C.: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on the government of British Columbia to deliver on three taxpayer priorities in the budget: cut the carbon tax, pay down debt and stop the waste at TransLink. The B.C. government is releasing the provincial budget on Feb. 28.

“Now is the time for Premier Eby’s government to show that it is taking the rising cost of living seriously,” said Carson Binda, the CTF’s B.C. Director. “Now is the time to cut taxes, pay down the provincial debt and end the fleecing of British Columbians by TransLink bureaucrats.”

The CTF is calling on Eby to make three important resolutions:

  • Pay down the provincial debt, which currently stands at almost $100 billion.

  • Axe provincial carbon taxes that costs drivers an additional 31 cents per litre of gasoline and an extra 19 cents per litre of diesel.

  • Reject TransLink’s demand for a $250-million bailout from the province.

“B.C. families are paying the highest fuel taxes in North America and they need a break ,” said Binda. “We also need to control spending and pay down the provincial debt to make sure we’re not leaving an unsustainable financial burden for our kids and grandkids.”
