To Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland:
Taxes on liquor in Canada are among the highest in the world, already making up about 50 per cent of the price of beer, 60 per cent of the price of wine and 80 per cent of the price of spirits.
Your government implemented an escalator tax that will automatically increase excise taxes on beer, wine and spirits each year at the rate of inflation.
Automatic and hidden tax hikes are unaccountable and unaffordable.
We, the undersigned, call on your government to repeal the escalator tax and to reduce federal liquor taxes.
