SASKATOON, SK: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation released new Insightrix polling showing 69 per cent of Saskatchewanians support the Saskatchewan government scrapping the provincial industrial carbon tax.
“The poll shows that Saskatchewanians know that carbon taxes make life more expensive and hurt the economy,” said Gage Haubrich, CTF Prairie Director. “Premier Scott Moe made the right move when he made Saskatchewan Canada’s only carbon tax-free province.”
The Saskatchewan government set its provincial industrial carbon tax to zero on April 1, 2025. This removed the carbon tax from SaskPower bills, saving Saskatchewan families hundreds of dollars per year. It also made Saskatchewan the only carbon tax-free province in Canada.
The Insightrix poll asked Saskatchewanians what they think about the Saskatchewan government cancelling the provincial industrial carbon tax. Results of the poll show:
Ottawa continues to put pressure on provinces to impose an industrial carbon tax. A memorandum of understanding between the federal and Alberta governments includes an industrial carbon tax increase. It’s likely the federal government is approaching the government of Saskatchewan with a similar deal.
“Saskatchewanians know that carbon taxes on refineries make gas more expensive, carbon taxes on utilities make home heating more expensive and carbon taxes on fertilizer plants increase costs for Saskatchewan farmers,” Haubrich said. “Moe needs to keep listening to Saskatchewanians and keep Saskatchewan carbon tax-free.”
