Toronto, ON — The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is praising the Ford government for making the 6.4 cent per litre gas tax cut permanent.
“This move puts real money back in people’s pockets and marks a big win for taxpayers,” said Nicolas Gagnon, Communications Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. “A two-car family is saving about $35 a month because of this gas tax cut. Making it permanent is the right call, especially with everything else getting more expensive.”
The Ford government tabled legislation to make the 6.4 cent per litre gas tax cut permanent, locking in the nine-cent rate and ensuring continued relief at the pump.
Since the cut was first introduced in July 2022, Ontario drivers have saved over $2.5 billion — with the average household saving more than $1,000 so far.
“With affordability remaining a top concern for families, it’s encouraging to see the government implement meaningful, long-term relief,” said Gagnon. “This isn’t a short-term rebate or a temporary measure — it’s a permanent tax cut that delivers savings every time Ontarians fill up their tanks.”
