The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding Ontario Premier Doug Ford for announcing his intention to sell a recently purchased private jet designated for the premier.
“Ford is doing the right thing by selling this private jet that never should have been purchased in the first place,” said Noah Jarvis, CTF Ontario Director. “Taxpayers can’t afford to be footing the bill for the premier’s private luxuries while the province sinks to $485 billion in debt.”
The Ford government recently bought a $28.9 million private jet designated for the premier’s travel, as reported by the Toronto Star.
Ford faced significant backlash for the private jet purchase from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, calling on the premier to return the jet.
Ford previously bragged about never using the premier’s personal plane in 2019, saying he prefers to drive and talk to the people.
The Ford government would announce their intention to sell the private jet just two days later.
“Taxpayers can now be assured they aren’t paying for the premier to live a fancy and luxurious life when travelling in and out of the province,” said Jarvis. “There’s no reason why the premier can’t travel commercially like the rest of us.”
