The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding the decision of the Alberta Court of Appeal that finds the federal government’s amended Impact Assessment Act or the “No More Pipelines” law unconstitutional. The CTF was an official intervener in the case.
“We are pleased to see the court side with taxpayers and hardworking people who want to get this country’s resources out of the ground,” said Kris Sims, CTF Alberta Director. “This is a great step forward for taxpayers and our economy.
“If Ottawa tries this again, we will be ready to keep fighting. We need to be able to develop Canadian resources to create jobs and get the country back to work.”
The CTF also intervened in the first court case against the original Impact Assessment Act. The Supreme Court found that the previous version of the Impact Assessment Act was unconstitutional in part.
The law gave the federal government sweeping powers to impede resource development such as mines and pipelines and stop provinces from creating jobs.
“This is a big win for taxpayers and workers across the country,” Sims said. “Alberta and other provinces must have the right to develop their resources and create jobs without interference from Ottawa. Full stop.”
